In Japanese folklore, spirits of the forest, often residing in trees, are known as kodama (木霊, "tree spirit"). These spirits are believed to have a strong connection to the trees they inhabit. 
This little forest spirit is one of my interpretations of the Kodama, and Ethereal creature that moves through the forests tending to them and protecting them.
